As a 2004 novice, this was the first book I found in the local shop.
It gives very complete guides to draw and stud poker and enough insight into Hold em and Omaha to be worthwhile. I'd have preferred more on them than the confusing low ball stuff.
The odds tables are well presented so you don't have to search far for info.
My main criticism is some of the example hands say stuff like 'player 6 is good at maths so realises he's getting 5:1 for his money' type of thing which is fair as a mathematician but not big on the explanation and certainly not realistic to be worked out quickly at the table.
In short, there are probably better books out there but this one is fairly complete for someone who is a total novice!
