5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkably Prescient, 1 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Computers at Work (Hamlyn all-colour paperbacks, popular science) (Paperback)
I first read this book as a 13 year old in 1969 and to see it again at the age of 57 brings back nostalgic memories. I think it first awakened my interest in computers and indeed I did become a computer programmer. Some of its predictions were remarkably prescient, such as global computer networks (though the word internet is not actually used of course), Satellite navigation (GPS) etc, although even the authors in those days could probably not have foreseen some of the remarkable progress in the intervening 45 years. A cutting-edge computer disk drive the size of a fridge-freezer with a capacity of 25Mb? I now have a portable disk drive the size of a cigarette pack with a capacity of 1Tb(a forty thousand fold increase!)

Well illustrated throughout.
