I chose this book because of good reviews on amazon.com and because of a recommendation from someone I know. Although I understand mr. McClelland is considered a Photoshop guru of some kind, and obviously knows a lot about it, I was a bit disappointed with this book. I'd expected to get some more background information on why/how things work, and the book is more of a 'open this picture, and follow my steps exactly and you'll get this result' kind of thing. Thousands of these already on the market, and wasn't what I was looking for. Furthermore, I found the pictures and examples in the book to be kind of simple/basic pictures, which really weren't very inspiring for a fotographer. Maybe the author is trying to reach 'the masses' by using pictures of his kids, assistant, etc. to illustrate things, but I was expecting something more professional from someone considered a bit of a 'guru'.
On the plus side: good lay-out, lots of pictures, you can download the video tutorials and practice files from a site (no more DVD's included).
