Real World Erlang,
By Martin Carlson "Martin" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erlang Programming (Paperback)
This book is concise and to the point. It teaches you how to write Erlang programs using the concepts that has been used in the real world. Erlang is different. It can be a bit of a mind bender to get the ides behind the concepts used in the Erlang/OTP but this book presents them in an easy to digest form. I would recommend this book to anyone tracking down the Erlang path.

More than in one occasion on articles I spotted references to this new language and I become curious so I arrived to this book. The book is very well written, the exposition is very clear even to the real beginner. It is very easy to follow, it is never boring and go straight to the point. The examples are very well developed and the excersises as well. It is a must have for anyone that wants to master Erlang or simply want to learn if to scratch.

Excellent complementary book to Armstrong,

This review is from: Erlang Programming (Paperback)
This books delivery has a slightly academic feel, with good definitions of the terms used and concepts explained quite thoroughly but sometimes a bit tedious in that academic kind of way.I found approaching this book after Joe Armstrongs guide much easier and it became a useful companion to the 'other' Erlang book. However they do actually complement each other really well with the O'Reilly guide filling in the theoretical gaps the essentially practical Amrstrong guide omits. Both books together would be a perfect start to Erlang. At least they both greatly helped me. As an essentially practical guide though I would recommend Armstrong, unless you are looking for a somewhat more academic introduction.

Great book,

I'm new to Erlang, but this book is very good and clear. It covers the language quite well, from many points of view, and I'm very satisfied.4 stars instead of 5 because it seems to me that it does not talks enough about the pitfalls of a language that is not so perfect as it is presented, and some parts could be developed a bit better. But all in all it is a great book. |
