4.0 out of 5 stars Great book to start out with., 11 April 2010
This review is from: Bioinformatics Programming Using Python (Paperback)
As a biochemist who needed to learn Python to do some data mining and manipulation, I quickly discovered a lack of text books covering python (lots covering the ageing perl) for scientists. I haven't had a chance to read the entire book yet, but so far, so good. It approaches biological problems and introduces good programming habits. It uses Python 3 (which is better if you're starting to learn python fresh) and approaches programming in a way that as a scientist, you shouldn't feel patronised. It's not so stupidly simple as those "Python for Dummies" books, but not as hard to dive into as "Programming Python". This book deals with lots of applied scenarios that are well selected. The american has a much more thorough review, and a "Look inside" feature, if you're unsure. Hopefully after you've read this book, you'll be in a much better state to go ahead and read the more advance, non-applied books.
