5.0 out of 5 stars Handy all round
Excellent pocket guide, which covers all of the important DBA topics with just enough depth to keep you on the right track.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could do better...
The book covers 3 areas of the DBA role. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more "actual" commands, than explanations. It is after all a pocket reference. This book is a good place to start, but you will need to read some other documentation to use it to its' full potential.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what i'd like from a pocket reference, 22 Jan 2003

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Oracle DBA Checklists Pocket Reference (Paperback)
I agree with the previous reviewer who said they'd prefer more actual commands, which is what i'd come to expect from pocket books. This book, however, is very wordy and so hard to just glance through to look up something. A large chuck of the book is devoted to installing Oracle, and creating a database.. both of which I personally do very infrequently so wouldn't need those sections often and also, installing Oracle and planning a database are sufficiently important events that you would probably want to refer to the proper manuals anyway.
