4.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Collection of little Heart-warming extras...
'A Continuation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice' the title says... this statement probably immediately misleads readers like myself of what to expect. It suggested a sequel to the classic romance- a brand new love story.
If you start the book with this assumption, I can tell you, you may instantly feel deceived. For when I read the first two letters of the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
...I have been very disappointed. While I was expecting a story that told of the relationship between Elisabeth and Mr Darcy after their wedding, I met with a collection of letters full of empty pleasantry. Half of the book is comprised of Elisabeth's yearning for the company of her dear sister; her meetings with Austen's majors characters from her other novels (Emma,...

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely sequel, 11 May 2009

Letters from Pemberley is a beautiful series of letters from the newly-wed Mrs Elizabeth Darcy to her beloved sister Mrs Jane Bingley, focusing on Elizabeth's first year of mistress of Pemberley.

From her first few uncertain weeks of being mistress, to the revelation she is to become an aunt, hrough to thier first Christmas, Letters from Pemberley shed light on what life might have been like for Elizabeth, and serves as a most delightful sequel to Jane Austen's beloved Pride and Prejudice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully true to Austen!, 10 April 1999
By A Customer
Letters From Pemberley sparkles with the same wit and humour that Jane Austen is so famous for. In a series of 25 letters to her sister Jane, Elizabeth Bennet Darcy describes her first year as mistress of Pemberley. Letters is far better than most sequels and continuations which have been written, and one can almost imagine that Miss Austen wrote it herself. Thoroughly enjoyable!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Continuation, 10 July 1999

Finally, a book that JA herself could have written. Austen fans should love this one, a series of letters written by Lizzy to Jane concerning her first year of marriage to Darcy. Cleverly interwoven are characters with names changed, borrowed from JA's other novels, or a word-play on their original name. You'll have fun guessing. Lovely to read! Heartily recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Review, 1 Aug 2002
By A Customer
I bought this book after reading through the comments by other reviewers, and I am back to say that I found this book very enjoyable, although fairly lightweight. It is unobtrusive on Jane Austen's original characterisation from P&P and although no body can ever match Austen's style and use of language, this is as good a try as any, and deserves commendation nevertheless.
Although not offering any major plot developments, I see this as a good thing, as it does not intrude on Austen's original intentions. Well done Jane Dawkins. p.s. not too many americanism's like in 'Desire and Duty' by the Baders.

This is a great follow-up to Pride & Prejudice. It is the letters that Elizabeth wrote to Jane after they married and shows all their joy, insecurities and the dramas that they have. A wonderful read and highly enjoyable.

Finally, a sequel to Austen's work which exemplifies her style and humour. Excellent job of characterization, portraying Lizzy's first year as Mrs. Darcy. I would recommend this to all!

15. September 1999 I loved this book. Excellent sequel. As there have been many Austen sequels, and many of them fall way short of the mark, I must say that this was the best yet.

This is a delightful modern take on the incomparable Jane Austen's Pride & Predjudice. It deals with the year after Lizzzie became Mrs Darcy and has an easy to read charming style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and Sparkling!, 19 Dec 1999
By A Customer
LINDA from Spokane, WA , December 17, 1999 Delightful--light and sparkling "Letters from Pemberley" was quite a treat. If you enjoyed reading JA's letters, you will definitely enjoy this book. Jane Dawkins succeeds where so many others have failed by not biting off more than she can chew. (Read her introduction--she meets her goals for this book very completely.) Ms. Dawkins has a way of bringing Elizabeth's saucy spirit and wicked sense of humor into this book of letters with just the turn of a phrase.

A reader from Indiana , September 23, 1999 Do Not Hesitate!! Buy & Read This Book! I just finshed reading "Letters From Pemberley". I loved it. All I can say is that this book is the best Pride and Prejudice sequel I have read. I just wish it was longer. I enjoyed reading it so much - I was sad it ended so soon. Ms. Dawkins, the author, is superb. She has alot of talent. This is one Pride & Prejudice fan who is hoping she will do a sequel to the sequel. Well Done!!!
