5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book
I have worked with lots of children, for many years, and I think this book is GREAT! It has a really nice friendly way about it, with lots of stories. THere are great tips on picky eaters, children who aren't happy at school, children who won't tidy up or clean their teeth without a fight (I've come across quite a few of these!) also bullying, shy children etc etc. Really...

3.0 out of 5 stars successful parenting
not a bad book, seems to be talking to the younger parent, which is fine, but i was confused as it seems to be dealing with teenage kids rather than toddlers, some good references to adhd, easy to read, for the parent with not much time to spare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent inspiration, 9 Feb 2011
This review is from: Seven Secrets Of Successful Parenting: Or How to Achieve the Almost Impossible (Paperback)
Seven secrets -- I wish I would have read it much earlier. Straightforward with a good narrative and most importantly of all, the book provides the insight to navigate the biggest life challenge of all, raising the next generation. We found it easy to read with concrete examples, not patronising. It is a great tool to help boost my confidence as a parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parenting problems solved!, 17 Aug 2008
This review is from: Seven Secrets Of Successful Parenting: Or How to Achieve the Almost Impossible (Paperback)
Parenting is a minefield with more manuals than the British Library so finding a book that offers support without being patronising, talks about real problems and suggests strategies that don't involve disrupting your life and is charming, funny, well written and very well edited is a real bonus.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly insightful and user friendly, 24 Feb 2011
This review is from: Seven Secrets Of Successful Parenting: Or How to Achieve the Almost Impossible (Paperback)
Seven Secrets of Successful Parenting is a wonderful read and resource. As children don't come with a handbook at birth, a bit of practical professional advice to help navigate the wide variety of issues which parents face is always welcome in our house. Coleridge and Doherty have successfully captured a unique way of looking at parenting styles, the appropriate style for a given situation (or inappropriate, for that matter) and the combination which is required to deliver the desired outcome. They have analysed complex behaviours and sorted them in a straightforward manner so those of us without PhDs in psychology can unravel and recognize the dynamics in play. It is an enlightening read; it provokes self reflection and identifies a better approach available which may yield some pleasing results - confident, happy children and family harmony. It is one to keep not on the shelf but on the bedside pile for re-reading and reference!
