3.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet insightful and extremely personal, 8 April 2001

This review is from: Vanity of Duluoz: Modern Classic: The Adventurous Education of a Young Man (Flamingo Modern Classics) (Paperback)
Passages of this book are excellent with Kerouac providing typical semi-mystical insight into mid-century America. However parts of it are self-indulgent and seemingly personal (you get the impression that he really enjoyed writing it, and in a sense felt obliged to). At times sad, funny and poetic this book makes good, easy reading. Some hardcore Kerouac fans may cringe as it is somewhat less radical than his more popular books but this increased accessability may please some readers. Recommendation: take it on holiday.
