A textbook that is most certainly lacking
on 12 May 2009
The advantages of this book is in it's clean example driven approach to electronics, simple and straightforward, but this approach is decapitated by a lack of more solid theory and mathematical treatment. Also I find it hard to believe that a modern textbook in electronics can have no interactive problems and quick check questions. Also not much effort seems to have been invested in end of chapter problems.
It's also very shameful that many mistakes from the 9th edition were not corrected, in fact holding both copies together you will find them almost identical.
Despite this, you will probably advance quite rapidly, it took me only a few days to get through what I needed, but only if you have another book for reference, I would recommend the bible, i.e "the art of electronics".
Furthermore if you are not going to use all the advanced topics during your studies, you may be better of with a more thorough and interactive textbook. Rather than purchasing two textbooks.
Hopefully the authors will realise these mistakes and make an actual new edition rather than reselling an older one. All that said; if you have an electronics heavy course, you will probably need this text, but also don't forget your bible for reference!
