Absolutely amazing series! Love Brandon Sanderson. He wrote a great story in this trilogy and most definitely worth a read!

Becoming a big fan of Brandon Sanderson, the books are as good as David Gemmels. Can't wait to read the rest in the series

After a slightly slow start where I wasn't entirely sure what was going on, this turned into a good, entertaining read. Fast-paced story, good diverse cast of interesting characters, some nice original ideas. The dialogue was generally good and natural but occasionally became 'clunky' with characters delivering long, multi-paragraph speeches for purposes of exposition! Generally the story was well-plotted, though I thought I spotted the odd inconsistency. The story had quite a 'modern' feel for me, despite its typical historical-style fantasy setting, possibly this came from the dialogue, and isn't at all a bad thing.

The main problem for me was that I didn't feel there was a great deal of depth of characterisation, which meant I didn't truly feel for the characters, I didn't feel any real fear or sadness or hope for them. Maybe that speaks more of my lack of empathy than anything else! But perhaps we could have had the chance to get to know and love them a little better.

Overall though it was an enjoyable book, good solid story-telling and lots of adventure, which are the main things I want from a fantasy novel! I'll definitely be reading more of this trilogy/series.

A good book to start the trilogy. A good story line giving plenty of interest to make me want to read the next book.
