I have read the other Castagnetti books after reading Tobias Jones 'The Dark Heart of Italy' and enjoyed them. I was therefore eager to read 'Death of a Showgirl' and bought it on pre-order. I found it a little disappointing. The story meanders along without ever really gripping your interest due to under development of the principal characters. Castagnetti himself is almost a phantom narator and shows no emotion or involvement in the plot. There is no feel of the Italian setting as there are in the other books and it is poorer for it. A shame.
