4.0 out of 5 stars Tantalising title though no lightweight
Tantalising title aside, Philip Adams' collection of essays makes a most stimulating though somewhat heavy read, as he uncovers subtle internal states in the individual using clinical material as examples. 2.0 out of 5 stars Below expectations, boring
I was holding to get an insight into love and attraction, from psychological, scientific point of view. I was disappointed, the book is very non-engaging

This review is from: On Kissing, Tickling and Being Bored: Psychoanalytic Essays on the Unexamined Life (Paperback)
Tantalising title aside, Philip Adams' collection of essays makes a most stimulating though somewhat heavy read, as he uncovers subtle internal states in the individual using clinical material as examples. I enjoyed the book thoroughly though often needed to re-read paragraphs for deeper meaning. A boook one could return to again and again for insight and reflection. Most suitable for philosophers, psychoanalysts and those with a literary mind but there is something for the general reader too. I would recommend this as an excellent intro to Adams' writing. I first read it ten years ago, and the book still has much to offer a decade later.

Must have lent this out to someone. Suddenly missed it, and ordered another one, always an interesting read. Do not be put off by frivolous title, actually a very deep and complex book.

Great book, just discovered by accident in a bookstore (at Harvard of all places): investigative, playful, philosophical. I am finally beginning to understand what is fun and important about psychoanalysis.
