4.0 out of 5 stars Selected Poems, 29 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Selected Poems, 1908-69 (Paperback)
This is a good selection from Pound's poetry. It includes a generous selection from his shorter (on the whole, earlier) poetry, including the complete texts of the brilliant _Hugh Selwyn Mauberly_ and of the earlier translations / adaptions _Cathay_ (from the Chinese) and _Homage to Sextus Propertius_ (from the Latin). After these comes a generous selection from the Cantos that goes up to the last volume, published in 1969.
It must be said that Faber's editorial procedures leave a lot to be desired in this book. There is no mention of _who_ selected the poems; dates are put to some of the volumes from which poems are chosen, but not others; there is no first-line index, and for some reason the alpabetical title index is at the beginning of the book. But the selection itself is good; and the poetry -- there's nothing like it elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ezra Pound Selected Poems, 6 Mar 2012
This review is from: Selected Poems, 1908-69 (Paperback)
This is a nicely bound book from Faber and Faber with a good selection of Pound's poetry. I particularly enjoyed the selection from LUSTRA; they are cynical yet beautifully formed. His humour regarding relationships is seldom matched; `The Bath Tub', `Liu Ch'e and `Arides', are good examples and are particular favourites of mine. As the other reviewer stated, it is a little annoying that the dates of certain volumes are missing, but don't let that put you off from this fine poetry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great anthology, 23 Nov 2013

This review is from: Selected Poems, 1908-69 (Paperback)
This book is a good intro to the range of Pounds poetic work that is somewhat eclectic in style and in my opinion encumbered by his Chinese translations and yet phrases of his imagist poems can linger for decades for the imaginative reader...some of them are available read by Pound elsewhere and probably on CD and are worth hearing to compare with the written works here...a good anthology that magazines effectively this fascist genius' work hugely belittled by the kosher victors of the last world war.
