This review is from: Handbook of Pottery and Porcelain Marks (Hardcover)
For the collector of china from outside the british isles there are many books of marks to choose from but few to trust. This is one of the latter, being updated periodically as new information is verified.
It does not cover the whole world, unless you think the marks on wares from china and japan can be covered in eight pages. That might sound simplistic but the fact is with oriental wares you had better be reasonably sure what the piece is before you examine the mark.
The book devotes about sixty percent of its coverage to european manufacturers and provides maps where relevant.
British coverage is obviously dominant and one of the advisors is Godden himself. This makes me curious because there are two marks for eighteenth century Dublin manufacturers with crowns whose names are mentioned in Goddens but the marks are not shown there.
And confusingly the sections are Great Britain England, then Great Britain Scotland and a third section Great britain Wales and Ireland?.
Listed alphabetically by manufacturer makes the book as clumsy as Goddens to use initially but it does have an index at the back to aid searches.
A highly useful book and I consider it as the european supplement to Goddens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good historical maks identifications book, 29 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Handbook of Pottery and Porcelain Marks (Hardcover)
The book contains well central Europes old porcelain marks factory by factory. Only thing I was missing there is more information of diffrent factories age markings. Mainly there was only one mark / factory. Anyway it is good and wide range of marks and good book for study and find marks. Closary and index are clear. Worth of money.
