5.0 out of 5 stars Five Red Herrings: It’s Murrrrderrrr
First broadcast in 1978, this is the BBC radio adaptation of Dorothy L. Sayers’ 1931 book ‘Five Red Herrings’, her sixth to star her famous gentleman detective Lord Peter Wimsey. It features Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter in 8 half hour episodes of sheer delight.

An interesting problem, ingenious and involved, but not one of her best. Becomes tedious at times, the strained Scottish accents didn't help. One for the Sayers' enthusiastes.

In this one Lord Peter is on holiday in Scotland, close by a community of artists. The usual passions and rivalries exist in the community, and one day the universally detested Sandy Campbell is found murdered in a remote spot. Lord Peter winds up lending assistance to the local police as they set about testing the alibis of everyone in the community, who all had motive, tracking down mysterious bicycles and setting up painting competitions to see who can paint the fastest. It’s an intriguing story that, as the title suggests, leads us down a variety of dead ends before we are presented with the truth.

Carmichael is a real delight as Lord Peter, and the production values from the BBC are high. As with the others in this series it is a real joy to listen to as we accompany Lord Peter and his erstwhile assistant Bunter on their adventure. 5 stars for this excellent release.

Yet another good story from Dorothy L. Sayers. Anything with Ian Carmichael in is always enjoyable.
Another one to add to my collection. Very easy to listen to especially when doing any house work.

Another classic radio drama with an excellent cast, it may be dated but to me that is not such a bad thing.
