5.0 out of 5 stars informative, moving and throught-provoking, 20 Dec 2001

This review is from: The Day That Shook the World (Paperback)
This book really gives background information to help to understand the horrendous events of that day. The chapters dealing with the outlook for the future are maybe controversial but certainly thought-provoking. The fact that the contributors are such well-known BBC reporters makes it seem more interesting and somehow personal. The chapters are all highly informative and vary from factual to deeply moving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, authoritative and enlightening., 4 Feb 2002

This review is from: The Day That Shook the World (Paperback)
When something as public as 9/11 happens, an emotional, unconsidered reaction is the easiest response. Whilst the book is not - and does not pretend to be - a complete explanation as to why 9/11 happened, it addresses many of the key questions, and helps rationalise.
Any major historical event has multiple intepretations depending on individual perspective. What appeals about this anthology is its multiple (fifteen) analyses, underwritten by the balanced, authoritative experience of some of the best BBC journalists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Food for thought - a clear and easy to access perspective, 26 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Day That Shook the World (Paperback)
I found the chapters in this book wide ranging in their coverage and clear in the perspectives they offer. This really shows the tragedy of September 11th within a wider context, and as such it raised my understanding of the background issues I now feel I should always have been aware of.
The chapters are not too long and the book is easy to "dip" into for this reason. I felt like I was getting a reliable perspective on events.

5.0 out of 5 stars A useful aid to understanding 11 September., 27 Dec 2001

This review is from: The Day That Shook the World (Paperback)
Before reading this book I didn't understand what could possibly go on in the mind of someone to make them attack innocent people. But this book provides a good background about how America is regarded by the terrorists, and why.

A must read. From the moving accounts of the public and Stephen Evans, the BBC correspondent who was in the towers when it happened, to the analysis of the following war and the politics, this is a fascinating book. Easy to dip into.
