5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Read By An Ace Storyteller
Rosamunde Pilcher's The Empty House is another heartwarming story about how a widow, Virginia Kelie returns to Cornwall with her children and how whilst there she meets again the handsome farmer she left behind all those years ago. As a long-standing devotee of Rosamunde Pilcher I was not disappointed with this novel.
She has a particular style and her writing is a joy to read - also, of course, she tells a good
story. In paperback, it is particularly good for reading in bed or slipping into the handbag
for quiet moments when left waiting!

Rosamunde Pilcher has written some truly memorable books-The Shell Seekers, Coming Home, Winter Solstice, September. Proper page-turners, with good depth of characterisation, and excellent description. Books where one was sad to leave the characters behind. Alas, not this sorry little tale about a young girl thwarted out of her first love by an ambitious mother, marrying a "rotter" at her behest, and finally returning to Cornwall to meet-up with "the hero" once more, and live happily ever after. Not only is the story so trite and weak, but it is also so dated. Hard to believe that, even as late as 1973, the hero and heroine would light-up cigarette after cigarette.
Sorry Rosamunde!

3.0 out of 5 stars "Empty house" by Rosamund Pilcher, 22 Jun 2013

Was this kindle book abridged? The book was, although pleasant, too short and ended abruptly. Not worth the price of a book as it was more of a magazine short story.
