Not the Bryson I know
on 10 February 2012
I'm a big fan of Bryson, and have read all of his books in paperback format, before buying this for my Kindle.
Bryson travel books are in a class of their own, but this title, although worth a read, isn't up to Bryson's usual witty, fast-paced standard.
The first few chapters covering the discovery and early years of America are tedious at the best, and only when the book covers other subjects such as the Americans obsession with car and cinema etc., did I actually start to laugh.
Fair enough, this isn't a humorous title, but knowing what Bryson is capable of, this is a bit of a disappointment.
