Low self-esteem and obsession,
By Bunty (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Geography (Paperback)
If you've ever been obsessively in love with someone, and cringe when you look back at how you behaved, then you will be able to relate to this book. If you haven't, you will find it self-indulgent and demeaning. Catherine, a travel writer, embarks on an affair with the older, unsuitable Michael, and finds that the geography between them is not the only reason for his failure to return her love. The beginning - and end - of this relationship is recounted whilst travelling around India to her friend, Ruby. This isn't an enjoyable book to read as the subject matter is quite dark, but it is a worthwhile one for those who have experienced the pain of unrequited love. Sophie Cunningham ensures that the story is compulsive enough to stick with, and works through the tale in what is a therapeutic way for Catherine, as she comes to terms with the true nature of distance in relationships. |
