5.0 out of 5 stars It's the Mankiest!
Just read our copy of "Morris the Mankiest Monster" and immediately ordered three more for Christmas gifts. Morbidly delightful. Sarah McIntyre's artwork is stupendously disgusting in all the right ways :) She is one of the best up-and-coming children's artists we've seen. We'll buy more of her books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morris is one marvellously manky monster!!, 4 Oct 2009

I bought this book for my four year old daughter and she loves it. In fact, both my wife and I love it too! It had us all in fits of giggles, pulling faces at Morris' icky antics and going "EWW!!" at all the appropriate parts.

If your children giggle at the parts of stories where the characters pick their noses or fart then buy this book immediately! If you have problems with reading a story to your child which includes the word "Pustule" then go find something else.

Honestly, I loved this book. My wife loved it and most importantly our daughter loved it. I'll probably be taking this along to my local library to recommend that they buy it in too. Simple awesome!! :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, disgusting and brilliant!!!, 1 Oct 2009

If you like laugh out loud childrens books that appeal to both adults and kids, then this is one to add to your collection. Wonderfully written and illustrated throughout this book had both me and my children, aged 3 and 7 in hysterics and going 'YUCK!' in equal measure. The level of detail in the artwork is amazing and my children loved pointing out all the little creatures who inhabit Morris's world. If you want to please your kids with a book that you and they can reread over and over or if you just like books about monsters who floss their teeth with slugs, then buy this NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically disgusting, 22 Dec 2010
This review is from: Morris the Mankiest Monster (Paperback)
Morris the Mankiest Monster is possibly the most disgusting children's picture book ever and a very worthy successor to the filthy crown that for many years has been worn by Raymond Briggs and his Fungus the Bogeyman. How's this for a great set of opening lines:

"Morris the Mankiest Monster
Lives in a house made of dung
It only smells stinky enough when it's damp
So he keeps the walls wet with his tongue".

And that's one of the more pleasant quatrains in this gloriously revolting book, a more disgusting example being:

"His cheeks are encrusted with pustules
Which dribble like hot melted cheese
Warm yellow wax oozes out of his ears
And his eyebrows are riddled with fleas".

Revolting, yes? Well now imagine the illustrations that go with it and you will have a very good idea of what this book is like - Sarah McIntyre certainly does not hold back with her illustrations of Giles Andreae's hilarious rhyming words. Just look at the cover image above - I'm not sure I will ever be able to eat stringy cheese again! Sarah's illustrations are all beautifully drawn, with an incredible attention to detail that will have children poring lovingly over the pages looking for all the nastiest little creatures that live in Morris's house, and more disgustingly on his body. If there was ever a book that should come with a guarantee that it will be loved by children it is this one, and their parents will love it as well.

Experts claim that one of the best ways to get children interested in books at an early age is for their parents to read to them. For boys, this is even more important, and especially if that parent or carer is male. However, to many parents reading to their kids can be seen as something of a chore, especially after a long day at work, but reading books like Morris the Mankiest Monster could never be classified as a chore - it is just so much fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun to read, 22 Sep 2010
This is so much better than most children's books. The pictures are brilliant and the rhyming and language are great. It's fun to read aloud, you can get into a real rhythm. Having got used to being disappointed by children's books since I became a mum, I would strongly recommend this - it's a real gem.

I bought this for my grandchildren and they love it, the story taps into their love of monsters and grossness. they really like the pictures. Older people may see similarities with fungus the bogeyman but the colour here isbright and vibrant even if it is about being manky. Great value

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loved it, 30 Nov 2010
This review is from: Morris the Mankiest Monster (Paperback)
I saw this book on the site and I thought it sounded fun. My wife on the other hand gave me one of those looks that means I had made a big mistake. My 6 year old son (who the book was for) though it was fantastic. He took it to school and the teacher read it to the class. She said that the whole class loved the descriptions and the use of language was great and the whole class where inspired to try to write their own "manky" poems. I really liked the pictures and when we read it at bedtime we always seem to find another little object in the background that make us laugh/gag. Brilliant book I would, and have, recommended this to anybody who finds phlegm funny (any small boy then!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrid!, 1 Oct 2009

This is a book you will read again and again and not grow tired of (even when your child asks you for the 50th time!). So many disgusting things on every page that you won't see them all on the first read. My 18 month old just squealed with delight at the page with jars of absolutely horrid items. Plenty of spiders, slugs and worms to spot, even children too young to appreciate the full horror of life with Morris will love it; this one will appeal to young and old alike!

3.0 out of 5 stars As the title suggests this book is DISGUSTINGLY funny..., 19 April 2013
This review is from: Morris the Mankiest Monster (Paperback)
This is a book designed to appeal to the delight in grotty stuff that many little boy and girls seem to relish. It is truely foul in its descriptions that will make many adults cringe and recoil. To give you a flavour this is one of the pages: "He feeds off the snotty green bogies that lurk up his big hairy nose. And sometimes he nibbles the poisonous mould which he scraps off the ends of his toes" However it is somehow charmingly done, with very smiley illustrations and this combines to result in wide smiles and much amusement from young children.
