As a lover of polo, I can tell you that Jilly Cooper has captured the polo scene so precisely, It had me mesmerised throughout the book. Polo players your secrets are out!

Wonderful storyline, familiar characters who you can picture so easily in your mind and incorporating new characters and some of the ravishing cast from her previous books, Riders and Rivals, including the loveable cad - Rubert Campbell Black. Nobody does it better than Jilly.

Jilly has a way of bringing all elements of life into her books, the fortunate, the less fortunate, the introverts, the extroverts, the good, the bad, the ugly and in this case the absolutely stunning.

To me this is her best book so far, once I finish it I have to start it again, as it provides complete escapism from daily life even if just for 15 minutes a day. It takes me off to a world which many of us dream about but few of us actually experience!

Indulge yourself into the world of wealth, lust and beauty. You will be disgusted with Perdita, fall in love with Luke, get hot and steamy over Red, want to join in with the Carlisle twins, cure all Ricky's hurt, kill Chessie and Bart and ultimately experience their world. Don't deny yourself any longer - buy this fantastic read now! You won't regret it and I guarantee it will provide you with a warm feeling or two...

Polo is definitely Jilly Cooper's best book and probably my favourite book I've ever read! The writing is fantastic and draws you in from start to finish and the characters are both fab and fanciable. It's also great that she ties up loose ends from other books such as Rupert and Taggie's wedding. I've read it countless times and every single time I just cannot put it down. Jilly, I salute you.

I first read Polo in 2001 after Riders and Rivals in which is a lot to live up to, but I'm pleased to say that with Polo Jilly didn't disappoint!
Polo is the only book that I have read over and over again and its now 2008 and I am reading it again and I still feel the same emotions all over again. One will fall in love, cry, get angry, and at times feel like hitting that bottle as well. All this and you still have RC-B and a few other beautiful characters added into the pot.

I would recommend every one of Jilly's books with out hesitation. I know I'll re-read all of them over and over again. But if there is one that leaves you with that feeling, for me it will always be Polo. This one comes highly recommended!

Another rip-roaring success. This is a horsey,
naughty tale with many twists and turns. It is funny, sad, exciting, and an altogether quite
riveting read. The men are handsome, the women
are gorgeous, the horses are magnificent. You
can almost smell the Dior perfume! Wonderful!

This is my favourite book in the series, probably because it features a man who is genuinely appealing in a "boy-next-door" way, rather than being a selfish playboy. Having said that, there are plenty of selfish playboys in the background for those of you who like them. I knew nothing about the game of polo to start with but the book is structured in such a way that you come to understand the rules without it becoming too dry and educational. The plot unfolds over a period of several years, allowing us to see how characters develop in the face of various life-changing events, and real historical moments like the Falklands war and the 1987 hurricane play a believable part. In spite of some tearful moments, this is a "happy" book. It will probably bring a smile (and a few laughs!) to your face.

I've given Polo '5 crowns', as it deserves this ranking not within the context of universal literature, among Shakespeare, Homer and the classics, but in it's own genre - which it must be said is trashy novels. In this class, Cooper surpasses the considerably trash-filled challenges of Collins, Andrews, Steele et al. Do not buy/read this book with a view to being itellectually stimulated and wowed by Jilly Cooper's insight and erudity. Read Polo for a bit of fun - thats all it should be.

And fun it is! However trashy, Cooper has narrative down pat, and has and will continue to make scores of romantic women (inevitably reading Polo on a plane to Tenerife for a razzly fortnight) fall in love with such heavenly, oversexed creatures as the hon. Bas Baddingham and the amoral Rupert Campbell-Black, the quiet but alluring Army officer Drew, the insatiable Carlisle twins and the painfully moody and doubly irresistable Ricky France-Lynch. In the foreign contingent, ladies, choose from the equally appealing Aldertons - masochistic Bart, steady, sympathetic Luke or commitment-shy sex god Red, the beautiful Argentine Angel and a whole host of Angel's polo and sex obsessed countrymen. The male readership will perhaps find it difficult to lose themselves in most of the superficially beautiful women, but that is a biased view from a girl who adores all of Cooper's men, and despises about 90% of the women.

The story is satisfyingly long, chock-full of fiery Polo matches, with plenty of illicit sex and a wonderful happy ending which rewards all the long-suffering nice characters and settles down all the lovable rogues the reader will have undoubtedly grown to like.

To use a horrible expression, it really is unputdownable, and though you'll rebuke yourself constantly for ever buying it at all, the exploits and partner-swapping of Cooper's irrepresible characters will entice you to read Polo, Rivals, Riders and Appasionata again and again and AGAIN. Enjoy!

i have to say i first read this when i was 13 (stole it from my older sister) and i have to say i think i've read it about 100 times since then!! I never get tired of this story and after my first reading dove happlily into Jilly Cooper's world of Rutshire and read all of the other ones in the series.

The whole series is brilliant but Polo stands out for me as the ultimate in saucy, heart-stopping drama. A definiate must read for young and older audiences (a bit racy for children mind!)

p.s. i always wanted to marry Rupert-Campbell Black!!

A raucous romp starting in Rutshire, taking in USA and Argentina along the way!! Fabulous, decadent and thoroughly stirring, polo players, rock stars
and even royalty mix in this raunchy tale. Beautiful ladies (some not so lady-like) absolutely gorgeous men (yes please) divine horses and lovely dogs
make an irrestisible cocktail of mayhem, just waiting to be enjoyed. Get yourself a long, cold drink, lie in the sun, and enjoy!!

I loved this book, it kept me enthralled to the very last page. I smiled and shed a tear what more can you ask for. Fantastic!

I loved this book. Not only for the story and its characters, but because it drew me in and had me hooked from the first chapter. Having read Riders, I was hoping that Jilly would have enough story left in her to do this one justice. I was so happy to discover that she did! Each page was a delight and a new discovery into this very elite world. Well done and keep on writing Jilly!
