Miss Patricia Wood "astrophysicist" (Staffordshire) - See all my reviews
I am a first year astronomy PhD student, and had just been to a telescope to take some spectral observations. Having no practical experience in this area, I needed some background information to get acquainted with the basics of spectrographs and spectral observations, to understand the images I had taken. I would thoroughly recommend this book, as it gives a very good overview of the area, and is at about 3rd year undergraduate level. The title did not immediately suggest its usefulness, but if you are observing spectra, you are looking at stellar photospheres.
