5.0 out of 5 stars Fine specimen
All was fine. Delivery time was as promised, and condition of the book likewise, just as new.
And the quality of the content is great too. This is one of the forefront geezers in cognitive linguistics.

2.0 out of 5 stars lack of awareness of audience, 12 Feb 2010
This review is from: Cognitive Linguistics (Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics) (Paperback)
This book is explicitly touted as an accessible introduction to cognitive linguistics in the bumf on the back cover. However, in the experience of this reader, accessible it isn't. I should be honest and admit that I did not read the whole book, and that the initial chapters (1,2,4) were enlightening. However, the chapters that I was most interested - those on idiom and construction grammar - were not written with the initiate in mind, or at least the writers were not able to put their expertise in an accessible form. Even what I was able to gather from them was not particularly inspiring, and certainly not as interesting as views of these areas I had gathered from other sources. For these reasons, and because since reading this book I have come across far more accessible works on this subject such as Jeanette Littlemore's 'Applying Cognitive Linguistics to Second Language Learning and Teaching', I cannot recommend this book as an introduction to cognitive linguistics.
