5.0 out of 5 stars enlightening....., 28 May 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Light-Emitting Diodes (Paperback)
The book is clearly structured and contains lots of information about all aspects of LEDs from their history via manufacturing to applications like general lighting, including human perception of light, and datacoms.
It is however written for the more scientific reader, especially students and engineers, since it relies on some background in solid state physics and electronics.
The inclusion of exercises make it ideal for all who study optoelectronic materials, which are not dedicated lase.
It was an enjoyable reading as well as good gathering of information for my research.....

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good overview of LEDs, mostly for solid-state lighting, 28 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Light-Emitting Diodes (Hardcover)
This is a very good textbook, particularly for advanced undergraduate or PhD level. I think it's fair that it doesn't go into any topic in as much detail as you might find in a textbook dedicated to that topic, but that being said it covers many subjects, including discussions of electrical and optical charactersics of LEDs, photometry, LED packaging and thermal management. As such, it's a very handy general reference, which has enough references to allow readers to look up papers where they can find more detailed information.

As some other reviewers mentioned, there are some topics that are not really covered in any detail, such as the growth and processing of LED wafers, or the subject of "efficiency droop" in AlInGaN LEDs, so there is room for improvement in future editions.

Overall, I found it a handy reference that covered most of the basics, and it was very helpful to have during my PhD studies.
