5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent scholarly study., 30 Mar. 2000

This review is from: The Origins of Freemasonry: Scotland's Century, 1590-1710 (Paperback)
Mr. Stevenson has put together an excellent scholarly study on the origins of modern Masonry. This is not a work of speculation, making great claims on the basis of very flimsy "evidence", but rather a researched historical paper. As such, it can be recommended as an important work with respect to the topic. If the reader is neither a Freemason or a historian, it may be a little "dry" to begin with. This work also contests the notion that Freemasonry is of English origin, and handles the facts most effectively ( I deliberately stay away from Templar or Egyptian speculations ). This handling of facts is a pleasant change from some of the more recent works on the subject. Highly Recommend !

This book is the real deal. Stevenson looks for and reports his work regarding the history of Fremasonry. Very scholarly and very interesting. I would like to spend time with this author as this book is very thought provoking. I agree with Stevenson, his work has made me appriciate Masonry all the more. Well done.

At last a book which has been properly researched. An out and out history book, a book for all who are interested in the subject and full of real information and not conjecture.
