5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant perspective on Logic
l've always preferred language to mathematics. As such, I found this book wonderfully accessible. It's easy to read and makes for an excellent introduction at 1st year degree level.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite useful
This book is now dated and it isn't totally accurate. However, it is still very useful and on the whole it is a fairly approachable read. This review is from: Logic in Linguistics (Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics) (Paperback)
This book is now dated and it isn't totally accurate. However, it is still very useful and on the whole it is a fairly approachable read. Non-logicians who need to broaden their knowledge will find much in the way of useful starting material here. The book is thin on exercises and can only be considered a taster for further studies elsewhere. As a philosopher with an incomplete technical background, I found it useful on notations beyond first-order logic about which I was not 100% clear before, such as the iota-operator and lambda abstraction. Ch. 8, 'Intensional logics and categorial grammar' is far more difficult than the rest of the book and the point of it wasn't fully clear to me. The book isn't really about logic in linguistics: rather, it is a text in logic aimed at linguists.
