This review is from: English Words and Sentences: An Introduction (Cambridge Introductions to the English Language) (Paperback)
I had studied grammar before and had to buy this book for Uni. It is unclear, not precise, with terrible examples ('this hot bike is so fast that it may cause my soul to reincarnate.'(11) Seriously what is that??). The authors address the reader as if he was a 5 year-old, repeat three times uninteresting or irrelevant things but do not give precisions or useful definitions on the interesting points. I am not so sure about the reliability of some statements either ('To the great annoyance of learners of English, there are also about fifty irregular English verbs.' (27) As a "learner of English" myself, I learnt about 300 of them, but 50 is good too, I guess…).
Anyway, if you're looking for a clear and interesting English grammar, save £18 and search somewhere else.
