This review is from: Philip Guston: Collected Writings, Lectures, and Conversations (Documents of Twentieth-Century Art) (Paperback)
PG is one of those artists who give great interviews. I've been poring over the few interviews and words of his that I could find for many years, so to get this book, packed with interviews, is a treat beyond words. He has a great way of talking, it's always very honest. PG has many fans, most of whom seem to be people who went to art college in the late 80's, for whom this book will be not just indispensible, but a fetishized object. I'm already thinking of replacing my paperback copy with a more hardwearing hardback. Ofcourse it's great for the insight in gives into PG's work, but it's also just an inspirational tome. Everytime I read a page I want to put it down and get painting.
Only De Kooning is comparable for the simplicity and honsty of his words.
