5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic and Passionate Work
Myra Friedman's classic biography of Janis Joplin is a must read for anyone interested in the life and art of this great singer. 1.0 out of 5 stars Shame about .................
Myra Friedman's writing is overly florid and pretentious.

If you are interested in Janis, her life, her love, her joy and her art, then I would recommend that this is a book to avoid.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic and Passionate Work, 8 Nov 1998

This review is from: Buried Alive: Janis Joplin (Paperback)
Myra Friedman's classic biography of Janis Joplin is a must read for anyone interested in the life and art of this great singer. The Harmony edition of Buried Alive contains the most on the mark, intelligent description of Joplin's art that has been published to date. "Want to be hippies" will no doubt dislike this book, as the author smashes any romantic fantasies that people may have about the turbulent decade of the sixties. The author's love and affection for her subject is evident throughout this magnificent work, which won the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award when first published. Of the many books available on Janis Joplin, Buried Alive has no serious competition. Joplin was a complex, and troubled young woman and no one has come closer to revealing the truth about this extraordinary, sensitive artist than Myra Friedman.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best compilations of Janis Joplin's in print., 11 Nov 1998

This review is from: Buried Alive: Janis Joplin (Paperback)
In depth look into the making of a rock and roll icon. Includes many unflattering details that let the reader see glimpses of the real Joplin while still allowing him/her to form their own opinion of her life and death.
Excellent.

A really well written book, nicely updated since previous versions and a real must for any Janis fan or any music buff with a passing interest in music from the 60's and 70's. A fascinating life from small town Port Arthur, Texas to the world stage. An artist and tortured soul who was just never destined to make the long haul. Buy if you like Jim Morrison / Jimi Hendrix et al. BE WARNED THE 9.62 KINDLE PRICE IS TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS for this book!
