5.0 out of 5 stars dark, savage & absolutely mesmerising book..., 19 Feb 2004
This review is from: Shadow Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
It appears that the author got her magic touch again with this book. The last book 'shadow crossings' was quite a bland story (with the threat of Controllers gone). This book captures back the brilliance & the compelling spirit of her first three books.
Following from the Shielders escaping from the Controllers to a new world 'Shamara', the Controllers now turn their attention to another species, the Leors.
The Leors are a savage, strong race whose makes their living on trade routes & offering protection. To overcome their inbreeding problems they had to choose brides (virgins preferably) from other races. In exchange for the protection & transportation of 2 Shielder colonies, Jenna offers herself as a bride to Arion, a leader of the Leors.
They had to learn trust & understanding & sacrifices and lots of love to bridge the huge culture gap between them. An absolutely mesmersing book that made me laugh & even weep.

(VINE VOICE)    (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Shadow Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the fifth book in Spangler's Futuristic Shielder series and it is another strong tale, leaving us waiting for more!
Jenna dan Aron, a Shielder seer. Worse, she is one who has envisioned her own terrible fate. In her farseeing, she saw herself mated to a Leor, a man from a cruel race of people. In a Klingon style, they suppress any emotion and they mate for life. Even knowing this ahead of time, she fears she cannot stop fate, so she embraces it. When the Comdar of Saura, Arion, come to Shamara seeking a mate, Jenna, resigned to her destiny, volunteers.
Arion is not thrilled to be marrying outside his race, but he as no other choice. He fears Jenna will not adjust the barbarian ways of the Leor, thinks her too weak and feeble to survive. However, Jenna is stronger than even she knows, and along the way she finds Arion is not the distant man he shows the world.
Once again, Spangler builds a strong Futuristic World, that grabs the reader and pulls into the marvelous land.
Keep them coming, Catherine!
