5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning..., 22 Mar 2012

This review is from: Savile Row: The Master Tailors of British Bespoke (Hardcover)
Having already known that James was the self-styled guardian of all things Savile Row (and pretty much The Chap magazine made flesh) I had no doubt that this project was going to be a production of the very highest quality - and it is very, very good indeed.

First off, it's huge. You almost need your own atelier in which to open the damn thing, but no matter - the images are lavish, the histories detailed and the love, care and just sheer exuberant execution of this book are a joy to behold. Indeed, it's a Savile Row suit fashioned in paper. I can't quite accept it's cost as little to purchase as it has - books of this quality would normally command a much higher figure.

I won't witter on about the content - any right-thinking fellow will know all aspects of bespoke to be thoroughly covered - and indeed they are (tailors, profiles, hollywood..)

With the current renewed focus on the bespoke, hand-made and Britishness in origin, Savile Row should really be at the forefront of the drive for home-grown absolutely top-end manufacturing, if it ever becomes thus, they'll have James Sherwood to thank for it. I await 'The Perfect Gentleman' with anticipation.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing photos and write up of the tailors of savile row, 9 Dec 2011
This review is from: Savile Row: The Master Tailors of British Bespoke (Hardcover)
I kept a close eye on this book when it was being written and launched. I was really excited as there are not a lot of books about men's tailoring out there and this was a bold piece of writing that had a lot going for it. I was not disappointed, the photos are stunning, the brief history of each tailor was just enough to teach you something personal about the different tailors on the row.

It also mentions famous tailors such as Mark Powell who is not on Saville row, I went to check out his shop which is near Carnaby street and it was really nice to see this book in his collection of books about mensware. If you are interested in mens clothing from the black tie to casual suits in a funky style this is a great book to add to your library.

It is well worth it and you wouldn't be disappointed.
