this book is absolutely awesome. comes to show how un-original all the new artists really are, they just reinvent stuff that have been done decades ago, not that there's anything wrong with that. But anyway, it's good to show where it all started and is pure inspiration to new artists, would definately recommend it

An insightful look into the life of uber cool Parisian street artist/stencil king Blek le Rat. Great images, many unseen. A must have book for all you urban art afficinados.

If you want to learn more about Street art roots and Blek le Rat - the main influence of BANKSY, then buy this book. It covers a lot of little stories on his street art, which is, however, a bit more "plain" and artistic, rather then with a sarcastic/funny political message, such as Banksy. Meeting Blek-le-Rat at various occasions in London and New York I have to say he's a very nice guy and definitively very down-to-earth. Regardless he's been in the world's top-galleries for years and years...

If you dress your coffee table to impress your arty cool mates then this is a must have, as they will assume its Banksy on first glance, and then you can wittily explain that this is the guy that Banksy got his inspiration from, and you will look cooler than a polar bears toe nails, trust me, this is a true story!

In response to your comment about 'originality'. It is clear from what you wrote that you have no idea what you are talking about. Its not about decades ago and first actually nothing is original unless you are the very first person to come up with an idea etc. Every artist copied artists before their time and get inspired by them. You look at whats around you. For example most european painters from 20 th century (so more than a few decades ago!)were inspired by African/Asian art, Van gogh painted a bridge similar to an hiroshige artwork that was done around 1600.Its not just them, its anybody regardless if its tomorrow, today, decades or centuries ago. The 'originality' can be a style, the way one mix ideas that already exist together and create something new.
Look at Lichtenstein for a good example, he did several paintings that were 'copies' of paintings by van gogh, cezanne etc.. but yet his 'originality' is his style but he took what was already there and created something new which is his own now but therefore at the end of the day nothing is 'original' and I am artist myself.

This book is beautifully presented. I love this man's work - such a sense of humour - shame he has been so eclipsed by Banksy.
