4.0 out of 5 stars Good overall introduction, 1 Nov 2001

This review is from: Architecture of the Islamic World: Its History and Social Meaning (Hardcover)
George Mitchell provides an excellent introduction to a subject as diverse as Islamic Architecture and the text is well accompanied by detailed photography. For those with knowledge of the subject, the book may seem too brief but the topic is so vast that it is difficult to produce books of this type. George Mitchell does however succeed in providing a good overview for those that wish to obtain a general feel of this truly magnificent area of art and architecture.

George Michell, whose other books are already on my shelves or on my wish list, has edited a magnificent collection of essays on the architecture of the Islamic world that makes one long to visit every place, every building described, in the knowledge that one's appreciation will be much deeper after reading this book. Thoroughly recommended.
