This is a very easy to read book. It covers all movements within the sculptural art arena. It explains the concepts and workings behind movements like Constructionist and Futurist to the more modern contempory artists. It is an ideal book for both the novice to the more seasoned artist who wish to gain more knowledge or just to brush-up.

This book was written along time ago (1964) and it shows, rather than being a classic I found it has a somewhat patronising style and endless rambling on which doesn't really add anything, at the end of one paragraph it sums it all up when it says 'All this is part of the eclecticism characteristic of modern art in general, and needs no further comment' - so why on earth did he spend the paragraph doing exactly that!
To be fair I would imagine in it's era having photos all in one place would have meant it was a valuable resource but I can't recommend it now.

well, I received this beautiful book as a gift for my brother, only to receive this from him :

Sorry to be a pain Jen, but unfortunately that sculpture book has 6-7 pages missing, and those same pages are filled with duplicated pages from another area of the book, so some kind of printing mistake.

I've tried to return this but apparently I can't, I really would like a replacement!!

Have bought for my daughter studying level 3 art and design diploma and she has found it a useful reference book for brief overview of modern sculpture.
