Great source of inspiration,

The patterns in this book scale up nicely for the modern figure, though I should say I have a fairly small waist compared to my chest and shoulders. You need to have some idea how clothes go together, this isn't realy a book for beginners but I think anyone could follow the instructions with a little effort. You do need to be able to scale up the patterns somehow. The instructions provided are very traditional and often make no allowance for fastenings like zips and buttons. I love it for the ideas and made several of them up from a standard block modified to look like the patterns given.

This book would be a great purchase for anyone interested in period fashion patterns. Clear illustrations and many helpful tips. Although not suitable for beginers it is nevertheless easy to follow directions , as well as an interesting "read".

This book arrived this morning and is truly a pleasure to look at, some really lovely patterns in a fantastic book. As far as I can tell all the patterns are genuine patterns from the time and should produce genuine looking garments. Although be warned, this is not a book for beginners and some amount of skill is required for all projects. You ideally need to be able to scale the patterns up from the smaller versions and adapt these to the required size. Instructions are also brief and in some cases non-existent so some knowledge of patterns and garment construction would be a plus. However I guess if you have someone to teach or help you it's certainly achievable.
