5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books in the L. Frank Baum series, 22 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Ozma of Oz (Paperback)
Ozma of Oz tells the story of Dorothy travelling to Oz again, and features the Wheelers, the 'Heads of Langwidere' and one of the best Oz baddies - the Nome King. This book formed a large part of the film 'Return to Oz'.

In my opinion, this is one of the best books of Baum's series - with a much better flow to it than some of the books which are more like a collection of strange worlds linked together. The final chapters of rescuing the royal family of Ev from the Nome King are excellently written and some of the most memorable adventures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written with only two minor problems, 6 Jun 2010
This review is from: Ozma of Oz (Paperback)
Ozma of OZ is a very well written book and to be able to find a re-printed edition with the original cover is an added bonus (especially if you are a collector like me). The book is very well set out with clear font and is nicley arranged on the page.
There are only two minor downfalls with this particular edition of the book:
1. There are no pictures in the book which I, personally, find a shame because the pictures are so wonderful and so original and in some places help you get a clearer mental image of what is being described.
2. At the end of chapter 2 the end of the word 'breakfast' is missed off aswell as the ending punctuation - this may just be me being pedantic about things but this may be useful to you!
Over all I would say this is a good book to buy if you look for the original cover and a well set out story but if you are just looking for the the pictures this might not be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ozma Of Oz (Kindle Edition, Ed. Sam Ngo), 6 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I recently received a Kindle and the first thing I looked for was the original 14 Oz books by L. Frank Baum. Unfortunately, the various collections out there are badly formatted (hence the bargain price) and do not contain any of the original illustrations by John R. Neill. Nor do they have any worthwhile contents linking - in one case there are no links to the separate books!

Then as I was browsing today I found this new set of eBooks published by Sam Ngo - which seem to have appeared in the last day or two. I have downloaded the samples of the seven available Oz books so far and compared this one, Ozma of Oz, with my Dover facsimile edition.

This is as near as you are going to get to a proper facsimile edition on the Kindle. The formatting is superb, the original covers and plates are included. The only slight side-effect is that the illustrations which are "built in" to the actual text are not included - which is understandable in many ways. What can be included, is included.

Although I haven't tried it yet, there is a link to a free audiobook. I have no details on the reader or production. This appears to be the case with all eBooks published by Sam Ngo.

Here's hoping that we get a complete set of Oz books in this format. If you still hark for your eBooks to look like "real" books, then don't waste your couple of quid on the bargain Oz collections. Collect individually using these editions - which themselves are a good price.
