4.0 out of 5 stars A look at the magical past
This work was central to both the Golden Dawn and Crowley's A.'.A.'., in many ways it is out dated. What worked in the Middle Ages or Victorian England may not work for us in the world today. For people interested in finding a framework to create their own approach, this is an excellent source for structure.
The system presented here marks one of the major...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a complete book.
Its suprising to see so many here praising this version of Abramelins rite since it is not only uncomplete but Mathers also deliberatly skipped certain parts he considerd to dangerous for others to know about. In Mathers version of the rite it takes about 6-8 months to finnish it but the original takes about 18 months to finnish. This is just one example of many of how...

2.0 out of 5 stars No relevance to anything today, 17 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage (Dover Occult) (Paperback)
If this makes any sort of sense to you at all - you are kidding yourself. It is a remnant of the popularisation of the occult in the Victorian age, when self-styled sorcerers convinced themselves they were tapping into some source of unfathomable power. They were not, they were self-deluded or attempting to delude others. The fact this book is still in print is perfect proof of that.
If you want something a little more up to date I suggest any of the excellent books by Peter Carroll or Phil Hine (also available from Amazon).
I gave this book 2 stars purely for the novelty value. If anyone else has succeeded in performing the rituals described, I would be interested to be proved wrong.

This review is from: The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage (Dover Occult) (Paperback)
Abramelin system is quite difficult for performing but if succesfully performed it is the most powerful grimoire that exists.Do not try to perform it if you do not have the means for it because horrible fate will befall you.
