Granted this book has more pictures than words, but if you're interested in Demonology and Religious art, then this is the book for you. If you are looking for a book with written information on Devils, Demons or Witchcraft then I suggest another book as this book has little text. But the pictures are extremely interesting and it was exactly what I was looking for.

Richly illustrated collection of woodcuts and engravings covering all aspects of the subject, from Witchcraft, Demonology through to the Danse Macabre and Momento Mori; several of the illustrations i hadn't seen before! As with all the Dover Publications, superb quality paper and binding. Overall excellent value for money and highly recommended :-))

The collection of woodcuts, etchings and drawings in this book is truly stunning. If you consider buying this book, go for the print version. I bought the Kindle edition and was extremely disappointed at the size of the illustrations. Sadly, Amazon don't tell you that they cannot be enlarged on your screen.

This book may not have images of all the demons, but it has a alot of scenes, different chapters that mean different things, overall a very good book if you are researching into images into this sort of theme.

If you're searching for illustrations on this matter as an inspiration for art, it's just perfect! Info on some of the illustrations, all of them well identified.

This book is strong on illustrations and weak on words. Before you buy it, be sure that this is what you are after. What it does, it really can't be faulted on.

A disappointing book with a misleading title. It states '244 illustrations for artist and crafts people'. That for a start is not true. Of a book with 174 pages, 93 feature skeletons, most of which unsurprisingly, are virtually the same. Another 39 pages feature texts from old handbills with NO ILLUSTRATION on these pages whatsoever. That leaves JUST 42 PAGES all culled from naïve medieval woodcuts which means they are relatively crude renditions of medieval baddies. Probably half of these feature pages and pages of witches. Naturally witches in the medieval period were no different to any other woman and don't warrant inclusion as illustrations of witchcraft, mainly because they are not - they are pictures of medieval women (that's all) - and not even witch-like... Harry Potter they are NOT.
