4.0 out of 5 stars A must buy!
One of the best books ever written or drawn! If you have the time, patience, and intelligence to read the text, you'll find some of the best advice ever written on figure drawing. Vanderpoel approaches it from an academic point of view. Pointing out the major body forms and planes. He shows the student how to look for the most important things. This is not an anatomy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Skip it, some good drawings, the text is from medical school
I belive artists are mostly visual people, the anatomical descriptions are very difficult to follow, unless perhaps you have been to medschool. Pluses are the drawings, the size, and the price.

This review is from: The Human Figure (Dover Anatomy for Artists) (Paperback)
One of the best books ever written or drawn! If you have the time, patience, and intelligence to read the text, you'll find some of the best advice ever written on figure drawing. Vanderpoel approaches it from an academic point of view. Pointing out the major body forms and planes. He shows the student how to look for the most important things. This is not an anatomy book but an approach to the human figure concieved as a three dimensional object in space. Read it! I promise you that you can benefit by this method of thinking!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good illustrations from which to copy, 21 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Human Figure (Dover Anatomy for Artists) (Paperback)
I bought it to copy from. I chose it over other similar books because the drawings are fluid and sketchy rather than being too analytical. The drawings are appealing, and there are lots of them and of different parts of the body and so for me they are good to copy from.
