5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference for mental health care, 16 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Care in the Community: Illusion or Reality? (Medical Sciences) (Paperback)
This book is an essential reference for everyone interested about the community care for people with mental illness. After analysing the deinstitutionalization process in the United States (causes, benefits and problems) and the new mental health policies, it presents specific examples of implemented community cares services, as well as the assessment of costs, satisfaction and eficacy of this kind of services.

This book should be mandatory reading for everyone envolved in the development of community care services for mental-ill health, as it refers to the training of staff, mistakes to avoid and a new paradigm of mental health to embrace.

Although it's a 1997 edition, the information is still very pertinent. Well organised and evidence-based, CARE IN THE COMMUNITY: ILLUSION OR REALITY? gathers the contribution of many important professionals in the field. A good book for practice and also for research.
