This review is from: Light and Matter: Electromagnetism, Optics, Spectroscopy and Lasers (Paperback)
The book is good but I feel you need to do the problems in terms of scale diagrams with protractors and rulers. Unfortunately there are no solution pages. The problems teach you the text, so you do not learn anything from the text, just the problems which saves reading loads of drawn out details. Beware of the use of ergs and gauss. Have a data book handy, you will need it for conversion to metric units. She is fond of the Angstrom unit on the Zeeman splitting question. I think the solutions page is vital and for this price is essential. Fermi would be proud of us using scale diagrams as this is what he expected of his students at Chicago University, when he set homework.
