You either love it or hate it when it comes to the medical school exams and the inclusion of public health and epidemiology questions. For some students these marks are like gold dust in that they can easily gain them and for others it can be the most challenging part of the book.

When I received this book, I was intrigued as to how relevant the book would be for use by a medical student. Now that I have spent some time using it, I would say that it is great to use when exams are approaching and you want a quick revision source. The book covers most if not all of the essential curriculum and details that you would need to get you through an exam.

However I would warn any student against using this book to cover the curriculum as part of your curriculum in a PBL context etc as it is not sufficient to give you all the details for this context. This however to me would appear to be suggested in the title 'at a glance' which would never seem to suggest a comprehensive cover. If as a student you are looking for a book that covers in more depth that may be sufficient for PBL this component of the course then I would advise considering the use of the Lecture Notes book on this area Lecture Notes: Epidemiology, Evidence-based Medicine and Public Health or the relevant chapter in Medical Sciences: with STUDENTCONSULT access, 1e.

Otherwise if you are looking for a book that will be sufficient for revision then strongly consider getting this title from your university library or consider purchasing it.

I bought this book as it came highly recommended, but I have found several errors in the text which detract from the book as a otherwise well-laid out and informative resource.

Covers what you need to know briefly. If you feel inspired, you then further text needed to expand on that.
