Most helpful critical review
Only buy this book if you don't care about programming
on 1 May 2013
I purchased this book around two years ago as an introduction to programming, unfortunately I really didn't find it helpful. Broad leaps are made from some topics to other without any explanation of the links in-between. Much of the book is spent embodying the virtues of visual basic as a language without explaining how any of these features can be used.
I pretty much ignored this book, and looked online instead. I soon discovered other languages - such as C++, which have far better documentation. If you are learning to program, look for a book which clearly explains the fundamental building blocks. This book didn't even explain things like if and else, much less variables and functions. These are core parts of programming and help to ensure that you write efficient code - whilst this may not seem important, I am now employed to program micro-controllers, and every byte of memory counts.
So my advice, don't buy this book, it won't help you, just make you quiet confused.
