This review is from: Therapy Outcome Measures for Rehabilitation Professionals: Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy (Paperback)
There is a paucity of specific outcome measures for Allied Health professionals that are not goal related. This book describes how the measures were developed and how they can be used in routine clinical practice to show changes the patient/clients over 4 dimensions that reflect the areas targeted in interventions. It asks AHP to quantify qualitative information to allow the AHP to assess what changes take place over time. Entering the data also allows the AHP to look at a profile of changes in client groups and think of effecting to be made. The book describes benchmarking using the TOM so AHP can compare how they effect change on the measure. It is a very practical book and the descriptors at the end can be used to help the AHP make reliable judgements by providing descriptors of behaviours typical of a specific point on the ordinal rating scale. It also provides a simple rating tool for AHP to ask patients/clients to rate themselves of different dimensions to get a picture of where they feel their difficulties lie. Carers can also rate themselves on the scale.
