5.0 out of 5 stars A good quality and easy to use book for fieldwork and 'back in the lab'., 13 Feb 2011
This review is from: The Field Description of Igneous Rocks (Geological Field Guide) (Paperback)
This book has it all. A must for any student working on or around igneous rocks. The diagrams are spot on and the examples are up to date. The book is a handy size, not too big and not too small. Good value for money: if you are going mapping and expect to encounter anything igneous or volcaniclastic it would be foolish to leave without this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars welcome revision, 21 April 2011
This review is from: The Field Description of Igneous Rocks (Geological Field Guide) (Paperback)
A welcome upgrade on the first edition which was also excellent but a bit dated now. The new book is easy to follow and the use of color in photos and indexing really helps. I recommend it for any undergraduate geologist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, 3 July 2012

This review is from: The Field Description of Igneous Rocks (Geological Field Guide) (Paperback)
I have a mapping project to complete over the course of this summer where the area is mostly dominated by igneous deposits. The book offers a good starting point on describing and interpreting igneous rocks in the field. It is a nice sized book with a lot of useful information. The only downfall is perhaps the lack of information on reworked volcaniclastics. One could argue that they are sedimentary rocks but I was hoping that this book may address a few questions on them. However, that would be the only criticism I have and I think it is a good all round buy which I am very pleased with.
