5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the series. A bit more Black Company which is good.
Latest in the Garret PI Files series with the fantasy city of Tunfair's fantasy only private investigator.

Garret's investigation skills are called upon by his new family of in-laws, the dreaded Algarda's, which he has inherited from his new love the Sorceress Strafa. Tragedy strikes and Garret spends most of the book is a daze but manages his usual...

Don't buy unless you've read the previous book in the series. It's not the best in the series but it is the longest which given that length of books has been getting shorter lately is a welcome change.

This book reads like a conclusion, or a major change of direction. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of support characters take the lead investigator role in the next book.
If your a Fan of the series (I am) you will want this book. It is not for someone who isn't familiar with the last few books.

To solve the case he is helped by his partner, the Dead Man, and his usual motley crew of friends and acquaintances.

Glen Cook continues to come up with original ideas for an original urban gothic setting, executed with good writing.
Garret loses someone very close to him, and must track down the culprit.
My only reservation was how an episode of magic apparently bent time itself sideways; In fantasy as well as science fiction any violation of casuality requires a *good* explanation to be credible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Latest Glen Cook Novel, 3 Oct. 2013

I have been reading most of Mr Cook's novels since I picked up the first Black Company novel. I have read all the Garrett novels and enjoyed them greatly. This is another good read but does not have a happy every after ending for poor Garrett.
