This review is from: Resolute (Kris Longknife Novels) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fourth in a series of ongoing military science fiction, chronicling the exploits of kris longknife, a very resourceful heroine. And the type, as typical of such books, who can't stop poking their nose in where the politicans and leaders don't want and who gets shunted off to out of the way commands as a result.

So kris has done here, now being in charge of a naval station in a quiet sector of space. With typical efficieny she shakes the place up and uncovers secrets. Then has to go to great lengths to fight to defend them from wrongdoers.

Commendably dealing very well with the emotional fallout that the characters are going through as a result of the events in the previous volume, the strength of this series is in the characterisation. She may be good at her work, but she's not perfect. But she's got friends along the way, and she can touch other people's lives and inspire them to do better.

Another book that is not great literature, but a really good read. And there's nothing wrong with that. I look forward to the next one in the series

Sooo, book 4. You really need to check at least one or two in in the series before reading this one, or some of the characters motivations will not make sense. Also some of the inter-characters in-jokes.

Kris has been sent off to a dead end space station, and as usual events jerk out the expected pattern. So much for the quiet life. The author then follows his "what does she do to get out of this one?"

Gentle reading, as always ending with a wry smile on your face. Worth the cover price if you like space opera, and I'm always looking for the next one to become available.

Now, where can I buy myself a proto-Nelly?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read, 7 Oct. 2013

I like space military stories with a strong female lead, Kris is likeable and funny, as are other characters in the book, and the story fast paced, at the moment. The language is poor, and unfortunately has not been adequately proofread, but reading Amazon's self-published books is inuring me to that.
