4.0 out of 5 stars Phule Me Twice
I don't know how much influence the co-author had on this one, but this storyline carries better than the previous volume (A Phule and his Money) which was 'thin' at best. So much more going on in this one - it may be that Asprin got more of a say in this one than the last collaborative effort. I'm not generally a fan of his co-authored works. Glad we got a decent...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by this Phule book
If you were a fan of the first two books, the characters, the warm feeling you could get watching the misfits and no-hopers turned around by pleasant management and careful handling, abandon all hope. Don't be conned into expecting another book in the same line, they are not worth reading, let alone buying...
If you were looking for the optimism of the earlier...

Glad we got a decent advesary this time - the hated Major Botchup added a much needed foil to the Captain Jester hero figure. (It would benefit from the readers foreknowledge of previous storylines, so don't read this #4 without having read the others.)

If you were looking for the optimism of the earlier books, look elsewhere. This series has died.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull as ditchwater, 24 Aug 2007

With this book Robert Asprin follows his usual formula of ruining a good series after the first couple of books. As with the Myth series, in the first two volumes of Phule Asprin created a believable universe with interesting characters dealing with realistic but amusing situations. Unfortunately Phule Me Twice sees a degeneration into lazy writing and half-baked plots that are more typical of a mediocre US sit-com. There are no surprises and nothing to engage the reader. Possibly suitable for a young teenager but I recommend that adults steer clear of this one; especially if you enjoyed the earlier books.

4.0 out of 5 stars an excellent addition to the series, 28 July 2006

The continued characterisation and plot speed are very well handled in this book. A worthy addition to the series if not better than the others. It certainly had me reading into the wee hours to see how the escalating crises get solved!

I must stress this is a part of a series, not a book to dive into if you haven't read the previous three (which were all great too). The author doesn't bother, thank goodness, in re-introducing each character, he just dives straight into the story!

Big thumbs up from me, try it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Serial Errors, 28 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Phule Me Twice (Mass Market Paperback)
I must first make something clear. This book is part of a series. Considered on it's own, it is fairly poor fair. The plot line is confusing, the characters under-developed and the whole thing completely non-sensical. However, when read as part of a series, it is much better. The plot line is sensical, the characters, which have been developed in the first few novels, are nicely continue and developed. In short good fare.
This book shoudn't be taken as a seperate novel, but a nineteen chapter continuation of the previous series. Definitely work a buy.
