5.0 out of 5 stars mischievous diary, 26 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Dani's Diary (Bindi Babes) (Paperback)
This book is mysterious, adventurous and enjoyable. Are you up for reading the book now? Its called Dani's Diary by Narinder Dhami - the same author who wrote `Bend it like Beckham'.

It begins in a wedding in London. Dani's mum is getting married to loyal, rich and reliable Ravi. She is becoming a step mum to secretive Lalita which means Dani has an awful new stepsister who doesn't want to have anything to do with her.Dani's grandmother, Asha, isn't one bit happy about this, neither is Dani. She has to move houses with her cat, Tabitha, change schools and leave her friends behind. Asha gives Dani her diary to help her since Dani was going to the same school as her gran did when she came to England. She reads the diary while translating it form Punjabi to English. Mischievous Milly is hiding something. Something BIG that she hides because of someone in her family. After the wedding Dani moaned and groaned but she knew that it wouldn't work, well not today.
Lalita tries to do EVERYTHING she can to get rid of Dani and her mum. Lalita reads something that's out her and realizes how bad she was acting. Lalita and Dani set out to find where Asha best friend, Milly, is? Who and where is Milly? Will they find out the BIG secret between Milly and her family?

I would recommend this book for kids who have a step mum and dad. Well read this book and hopefully learn from it. The moral of the story is to treat people nicely and they will treat you good and you'll know them better.
Well thank you for reading this and hopefully you'll learn and enjoy the book

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Coppergate Classic, 17 Nov. 2007

This review is from: Dani's Diary (Bindi Babes) (Paperback)
This is another heartwarming story set in the milieu of Coppergate School.

The story is in two parts - one half is set in the life of a Punjabi family newly arrived in the UK in 1964 and the second part is set in the modern day. It's fascinating to see the different lifestyles of the two generations and the difficulties that the first generation faced.

But this is anything but a serious book - it's funny, generous of spirit, and exciting in parts - and the last two chapters are magnificent. Every child should read this - and their mum's too!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Luv it!!!, 6 May 2009

Narinder Dhami is one of my fave authors. I first read this book last year, but I reread it again this year and I enjoyed it even more. I think its more suitable for slightly older girls as its quite a deep book ( I think!) I love the two diaries and the way it all works out at the end. My gran read it too and said the bits about how Indians came to England in the nineteen sixties and what happened here was very realistic. So I guess it's kind of like a history lesson, but in a fun way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insight into British Asian experience, 5 Feb. 2008
This review is from: Dani's Diary (Bindi Babes) (Paperback)
Interesting use of two very different diaries, one set in modern day and one in the 1960s when Dani's gran emigrates from India to the UK.
The two plots blend well together and produce a really surprising ending. Recommended for girls 8-13.
